Kunst, Hochschullehre und Forschung

An dieser Stelle möchte ich einen ersten Einblick in meine Lehre und Forschung der letzten vier Jahren geben – als Künstlerischer Mitarbeiter im Lehrgebiet Fotografie an der HfG Offenbach. Seit Januar 2026 bin ich zusätzlich im Kontext von Machine Learning in ein weiteres Forschungsprojekt an der Hochschule involviert (nähere Informationen dazu folgen in Kürze).

Als Künstler, der primär mit linsenbasierten Medien arbeitet, war die intensive Auseinandersetzung mit Fotogrammetrie und KI für mich eine logische Konsequenz. Mein Fokus liegt darauf, Technologien wie KI nicht nur als Werkzeug, sondern als gestaltbares Medium zu begreifen und künstlerisch zu nutzen. Meine eigene Forschung dient mir an der Hochschule oft als Grundlage für meine Lehre. In der Lehre geht es mir vor allem darum, Studierende zu befähigen, zeitgenössische Technologien wie KI nicht als Blackbox, sondern als gestaltbares Instrument zu verstehen – und so aktiv an der Entwicklung einer neuen visuellen Kultur mitzuwirken, unabhängig von großen Tech-Konzernen. Hier sei der Hinweis, dass ich großen Wert auf Open-Source-Software und digitale Souveränität lege.

KI und andere aktuelle Technologien haben tiefgreifende Auswirkungen auf Kunst, Kultur und Gesellschaft. Ich sehe darin weniger eine Bedrohung als vielmehr eine Chance, die uns auffordert, unsere Vorstellungen von Realität, Medien und künstlerischer Praxis neu zu verhandeln.

Unten in der Tabelle erhalten Sie einen Einblick in meine Lehrangebote der letzten Jahre sowie in meine Forschungsarbeit, an der ich seit 2022 als Künstlerischer Mitarbeiter unter dem Titel „Frames New World“ arbeite. Einblicke in die geplante Publikation sind hier in Kürze zu finden.

Art, university teaching and research

At this point, I would like to give an insight into my research and teaching over the past four years – as a member of the photography department at the HfG Offenbach. Since January 2026, I am also involved in a separate research project at the university focusing on machine learning (more information to follow shortly).

As an artist who works primarily with lens-based media, it was a logical step for me to engage intensively with photogrammetry and AI. My focus is on understanding technologies such as AI not just as tools, but as malleable media, and utilising them artistically. My own research at the university often serves as the basis for my teaching. In my lessons, my main focus is on empowering students to understand contemporary technologies such as AI not as a black box, but as a malleable tool – and to actively participate in the development of a new visual culture, independent of large tech corporations. It is important to note here that I highly value open-source software and digital autonomy.

AI and other current technologies have a profoundly impact on art, culture and our society. I see this less as a threat and more as an opportunity that challenges us to rethink our ideas of reality, media and artistic practice.

The table below provides an overview of the courses I have been teaching in recent years, as well as my research work, on which I have been working since 2022 under the title ‘Framed New World’. Insights into the planned publication will be available here shortly.
